Depute Provost meets Kirkintilloch businessman awarded BEM
Depute Provost Colette McDiarmid recently met local businessman, Johnny Shek Ah Yee, Honorary Chairman of the Kut O Benevolent Society, cementing relations between the Chinese Community and the Council.
Mr Shek met former Provost Alan Brown often and was delighted to catch up with his widow, Catherine Brown. A long term resident of Kirkintilloch, Mr Shek was awarded a BEM in the Queen's Honours List earlier this year for services to the Chinese community in Scotland.
Edward Tsang, Honorary Chairman of the Asian Association of Culture, Commerce and Education in Europe also attended.
Depute Provost McDiarmid said,
Mr Shek moved to Kirkintilloch in 1973
Mr Shek moved to Kirkintilloch in 1973 and opened the town's first Chinese Restaurant soon after. I congratulated him on being awarded the BEM, a richly deserved honour."
