Diamond Day for Margaret & Ian

Milton of Campsie couple, Margaret and Ian Brown have been celebrating their Diamond Wedding Anniversary this summer and the icing on the cake came when they met Provost Renwick and Council Leader Gordan Low for a celebration tea.

The happy couple were married in St John's Church in Broxburn in July 1962 and have been East Dunbartonshire residents for 50 years. Both worked as public servants: Ian as a Chartered Accountant with the NHS Greater Glasgow Northern Division and Margaret as a teacher, working with children with additional support needs and visual impairment.

Margaret was waltzed off her feet by Ian at a dance in Edinburgh in 1958 with their first dance as a married couple having to wait until after Ian's National Service. They have fond memories of the reception in the Roxburghe Hotel and their Austrian honeymoon.

Couple's Interests

The couple share many interests including gardening, nature, family history, music, holidays and their lively Church and its many organisations. Ian enjoys walks with the Strathkelvin branch of the Ramblers and Margaret likes photography, writing and computing. Blessed with four children and six grandchildren, they are looking forward to welcoming their first great granddaughter in December.

Provost Renwick was delighted to meet Margaret and Ian and said,

My heartiest congratulations to Margaret & Ian on this very special landmark in their lives together

Privilege to share their celebrations

It is a privilege to be able to share in their celebrations and hear about their lives together and their many shared interests."

The secret to their long and happy marriage? They say it's all about sharing wonderful times with family and friends, their faith, good health, patience, mutual support and stickability!!
