Diwali in Bishopbriggs

The triumph of good over evil, light over darkness and wisdom over ignorance.

That was the message when Depute Provost Colette McDiarmid attended a Diwali event in Bishopbriggs organised by a group of Indian local volunteers and supported by BetterBriggs.

Diwali is one of the biggest festivals in India, celebrated by many religions (including Hindu, Sikh and Jain) and communities. On the night of Diwali, celebrants light dozens of candles and clay lamps (diyas). At this event, guests enjoyed Bollywood dance performances, a showcase of Indian diversity, photo booth, crafts corner for kids with Indian food.

Depute Provost McDiarmid said,

It was a pleasure to meet local people and other invited guests under such joyous circumstances.

Hope and positivity

Diwali is about hope and positivity and this event captured that perfectly. I learned a great deal about Indian culture, particularly the food!

Congratulations to the organisers for a wonderful event."
