Winter Wedding Celebrations for Cathie & Joe

This time of year has always been special to Cathie and Joe Mawson but there were extra celebrations this year as the happy couple marked their Diamond Wedding Anniversary.

Getting engaged in December 1961 and married on 24 November 1962 makes winter a time of romantic memories for Cathie and Joe and 60 years after the big day they were joined by special guests to celebrate.

Twin daughters Catherine and Carole, Provost Gillian Renwick and Lord-Lieutenant of Dunbartonshire, Jill Young MBE visited the couple to congratulate them on their Diamond Day.

Met up at the majestic dance hall

They met at the Majestic Dance Hall in February 1960 just as Joe had returned from Cyprus having completed his National Service. Their wedding two years later at St Aloysius RC Church in Garnethill was a day to remember with the Reception at The Grand Hotel in Charing Cross. A Honeymoon in London set them up to start married life in Maryhill. They moved to Bishopbriggs in 1966 and have been there ever since, surrounded by family and friends with a special place in their hearts for their four grandchildren.
