Bishopbriggs Youth Ambassadors visit to the Council Chambers

Three young people, who have recently become Youth Ambassadors for Bishopbriggs Community Council, visited Provost Gillian Renwick at East Dunbartonshire Council HQ in Kirkintilloch.

The Youth Ambassadors, all P7 pupils from Meadowburn Primary in Bishopbriggs, enjoyed a tour around the chambers and posed questions to the Provost about her civic duties and the history of the Council. Depute Leader of the Council, Councillor Calum Smith was also on hand to answer any questions in Gaelic.

Provost Gillian Renwick said,

“I think it is important we encourage young people’s interest in local democracy, so I was delighted to host the Bishopbriggs Community Council’s Youth Ambassadors at the Council Chambers

What goes on at Council meetings

We had an interesting discussion about what goes on at Council meetings and we had a look at the Provost’s chain of office and learned the history behind the Coat of Arms.

“I look forward to hearing how the introduction of Youth Ambassadors to the Community Council impacts on young people living in the Bishopbriggs area – I think it’s a fantastic idea and a great opportunity for the young people involved.”
