100 years on the Dot
Dorothy Mary McNaught, better known as Dot, was the centre of attention at Boclair Care Home as she celebrated her 100th birthday.
Depute Provost Colette McDiarmid and Deputy Lord Lieutenant Maureen Cummings were among the guests who joined the party.
They heard about Dot’s life and career as a homemaker and radiographer. Her work in healthcare saw her become one of the first radiographers to train in obstetric ultrasound rising to the position of Superintendent Radiographer. She worked in The Royal Infirmary, Redlands Hospital then at The Royal Maternity until her retirement in 1989.
Early yeas spend in Buenos Aires
Dot spent her early years in Buenos Aires with her parents and sisters then lived the rest of her life in Scotland with husband Peter and their two daughters, surrounded by family as she managed a happy, bustling household. Her true joy emanates from her expansive family which now includes five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Depute Provost McDiarmid said,
1920s theme
The 1920s theme was brilliant with everyone pulling out all the stops for Dot. She is much loved and described by those who know her best as ‘the epitome of enthusiasm, encouragement, humour and kindness’. Happy birthday Dot!”
