Community Champion Awards 2024 - Heather Bryson

Our next Young Champion is Heather Bryson BCyA. Heather is an avid volunteer from delivering Christmas hampers and gifts to those struggling during the holidays and gaining lifeguard qualifications to promote water safety, to lending her voice to Talking Newspapers.

As well as this Heather volunteers at a local charity supporting children and young adults with learning and physical disabilities to participate in sports which has led to her being involved with Sport Scotland and Young Scot.

Heather got involved in the local community during lockdown

Heather began to get involved in the local community during lockdown when she began to recycle cups and saucers into bird feeders to raise money for Dementia Services. From this, she began to produce chair exercise videos for older people, hosting live Zoom classes for care homes and individuals, and continues to be involved with the NHS and other organisations.

Heather was presented her award by Provost Gillian Renwick and Depute Provost Colette McDiarmid.

As she was presented with her Award Heather said,

I am honoured to receive the Provost's Young Champion award and hope this encourages others to follow in my footsteps

Finding a focus makes life fun and in turn share that fun with others.

This recognition is incredibly meaningful to me and I am truly grateful for the support and encouragement from the East Dunbartonshire community.

“I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Provost for this prestigious award. I hope this award inspires others to volunteer and make a positive impact in our community. Don't let your age, whether you’re younger or older, get in the way of chasing your dreams. Finding a focus makes life fun and in turn share that fun with others. Thumbs up and smile.”

Congratulations to our Young Champion Heather!
