Meet the winner of the Sustainability Champion category at the 2024 Provost Community Champion Awards!
Ivor McClure is involved in multiple projects highlighting environmental issues and what actions people can take to make their communities more sustainable. He is the driving force behind the Lennoxtown Environmental Group, is regularly seen litter-picking and leading local walks.
He also tends community gardens, including planting 2000 crocuses for World Polio Day and helped to secure external funding to install a bench at Haughhead so people can rest and enjoy the scenery while out walking.
An active member of Friends of Campsie High Kirk which aims to preserve and restore the building for community use, Ivor is also a member of Campsie History Group and works tirelessly to promote community, environmental issues and how our environment can have a positive effect on our mental health.
Ivor was presented his award by Provost Gillian Renwick and Depute Provost Colette McDiarmid.
As he was presented with his Award Ivor said,
“I was in the Young Farmers Club and I still live by the words of the motto – support all activities to the best of your ability and help and encourage others to do the same.
“And whilst I am extremely honoured to have received the Provost’s Community Champion Award, this award is not only for me, but it is for everyone in the community groups here in this area.”
