‘Twas brill at Gavin’s Mill

Even the sun came out on Saturday 12 May when an Open Day was held at Gavin’s Mill in Milngavie to mark National Mills Weekend which was celebrated across thegavins mill country.

Provost Renwick joined organisers and volunteers at the beautiful 17th century corn mill and listed building on the banks of the Allander Water to enjoy a history tour and watch the Mill Wheel turning. Special guests also included Cathie Buchanan, daughter of the last miller, and her nephew.

Provost Renwick said,

It was fascinating to learn more about the Mill and its history from people who are so knowledgeable about it

Artifacts on display

and I loved seeing the artifacts that were on display. Gavin’s Mill is such an important part of Milngavie’s Heritage and is run almost entirely by volunteers. My thanks to them for this event and their continuing hard work.”
