Section

1.         The purpose of this technical note is to advise members of the launch, on 1 September 2021, of an East Dunbartonshire Foodbank pilot project, which will provide a new mobile foodbank facility, and be available weekly in the car park of Hillhead Community Centre, Wednesdays 3- 4pm, for the coming months.

2.         The Community Planning Team, and a range of cross- council services have worked closely with ED Foodbank throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, and including through the council’s local Care for People and Isolation Support work streams. However, recent months have shown a drop in use and in demand for the foodbank, together with reduced referral numbers from local partner organisations.

3.         This pilot project will focus on mobile foodbank provision through a vehicle making community access and availability as straightforward as possible by being parked in the car park outside the community centre. Importantly, the foodbank facility will also continue to be available at the four static venues across the local authority area.

4.         Community Planning partners and the council’s community development workers will continue to work closely with this service to support projects and develop future aspirations to tackle poverty and inequality in our communities.

5.         The mobile foodbank is free and no referral is required.  Help is always welcomed for donations or for redistributing excess stock.  Further information is available through contacting info@eastdunbartonshire.foodbank.org.uk
