As you know, Jacqui MacDonald was due to retire in March 2020, but due to the initial onset of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, she kindly agreed to postpone her retirement to ensure that she could continue to provide stable leadership and support to schools and pupils through the uncertainty of lock down.
With the easing of restrictions and the Council preparing to move from COVID-19 response to planning for recovery, I can now confirm that Jacqui will retire at the end of June 2021.
I would also advise that from Monday 17 May 2021, Greg Bremner, Education Officer – Early Years & Primary, will assume the role of Interim Chief Education Officer. Greg will work closely with Jacqui, myself, Head Teachers and the central Education team on planning for Education recovery for session 2021/22; and to ensure a smooth transition of leadership when Jacqui leaves at the end of June.
Whilst it is a number of weeks away before Jacqui does retire, I am sure you will join me in thanking her for her commitment to the Education Service (and the Council) particularly over the past year. Similarly, I am sure you will join me in wishing Greg every success in his new role.
