Section

The purpose of this technical note is to provide Members with an update in relation to the introduction of a new digital service for schools.

Parentsportal.scot is a new online service designed to help replace the traditional school bag drop. It provides direct communication to parents/carers through a growing suite of online services.  The portal has been developed to provide parents/carers with a clear insight into their child’s education and to support transactional communications between them and the school.

Registration for a Parents Portal customer account uses the MygovScot (My Account) service.  This is a secure and trusted service provided by the Scottish Government.

Parentsportal.scot will be piloted to a cluster of schools at the beginning of October 2021 including:

  • Lenzie Academy
  • Lenzie Meadow Primary
  • Lairdsland Primary
  • Lennoxtown Primary
  • Millersneuk Primary

Communications will be issued to parents/carers via text message, email, social media updates and school and Council websites well in advance of the go live date.

Following an evaluation of the pilot, plans will then be developed to roll out across the remaining school estate.

The ability to use alternative methods of communication including schoolbag drops, email correspondence and telephone calls to the school will still be offered to parents/carers, ensuring digital inclusion for all.

Appendix A highlights the online services that will be available for the pilot schools.

This instructional video will be made available to families [opens in a new window].
