Section

  1. The purpose of this Technical Note is to update Members regarding the burst water main affecting certain postcodes within East Dunbartonshire.

  2. As advised previously, the Council’s Democratic Services team, as part of its civil contingencies and resilience remit, has this morning received a call from Scottish Water to advise of a burst water main in Stockiemuir Road.  Properties in the G61 and G62 postcodes have been affected.

  3. There has been ongoing engagement with Scottish Water throughout the day.  The current position is that the full length of broken pipe should be removed and the new pipe and repair completed by 5pm (all being well).  Thereafter, Scottish Water will need to carefully recharge the network to avoid, where possible, any discoloured water for customers as water agitates the pipes whilst it is reintroduced and the pressure builds back up.

  4. Scottish Water has advised that, bearing in mind the above, it is likely that some of its customers affected today may still experience loss of supply or low pressure until fairly late into the evening (10-11pm).  As a result, Scottish Water is about to implement a bottled water strategy where its teams will set up and open a bottled water distribution point.  Discussions as to the appropriate location for the distribution point are ongoing.

  5. In addition to the above, Scottish Water continues to have multiple water tankers in the area supporting the network and tank levels.  These tankers will remain on site until the recharging of the network is completed.

  6. Also, colleagues at Scottish Water are currently working through a strategy for the distribution of bottled water in the area, if this becomes necessary.  A decision on this will be taken at a meeting scheduled for 5pm.

  7. The Democratic Services Team has offered civil contingencies support and will continue to liaise with Scottish Water and monitor the situation.  If there is any significant change in circumstances then Members will be updated accordingly.
