This Technical Note provides an update on the East Dunbartonshire Youth Council, as requested at the most recent Education Committee.
Earlier this year 9 candidates stood for election to the Scottish Youth Parliament and 3 were elected as Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYP’s).
The 3 MSYPs and all other unsuccessful candidates were invited to join the Youth Council to help represent the views of local young people. 8 young people accepted the invitation.
The Youth Council have now appointed a chair and vice chair, a communications officer and a representative to the Education Committee.
The MSYP’s have joined Scottish Youth Parliament Committee’s focussed on mental health, human rights and equalities and the SQA Learner panel.
The Youth Council are currently developing approaches to increasing its membership, gathering views of young people, concerns about young people vaping and climate action.
