Section

  1. Further to the previous update in Technical Note 191 on 23 November advising of strike action in relation to an ongoing pay dispute, the Council has now received notice from the Scottish Secondary Teachers’ Association (SSTA) and National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers (NASUWT) of intended strike action by its members on Wednesday 7 December.
  2. Memberships in these Trade Unions will directly impact all Secondary Schools and a number of Primary Schools in East Dunbartonshire.
  3. As a result of the strike action, Holy Trinity, Meadowburn and Lennoxtown Primary Schools, along with all Secondary Schools will be closed on Wednesday 7 December, as staffing ratios cannot be met.
  4. Operational arrangements are being communicated to all school-based staff, teaching and non-teaching, including those not covered by the SSTA and NASUWT strike mandates.
  5. Effected schools will communicate that they are closed to pupils on 7 December through their usual communication channels, and further reminders will be issued through the Council’s social media channels, linking to our school strike action webpage.
  6. East Dunbartonshire Early Years Centres and those Primary Schools not affected will remain open on 7 December.
  7. Officers are assessing the impact of further notifications of strike action and Councillors will be kept advised of updates through further Technical Notes.
