Section

At its meeting on 16th December 2021, East Dunbartonshire Council unanimously supported the Motion detailed below and instructed that I communicated its content to TSB.

“Council

  • notes the announced closure from April 2022 by TSB of its branch in Kirkintilloch, the last remaining TSB branch serving the East Dunbartonshire area, following the closures of Milngavie and Bishopbriggs in May 2020, and Bearsden and Springburn in June 2021;

  • recognises with concern the impact of local branch closures on customers who rely on face- to-face services, and in particular on the most vulnerable members of our communities;

  • recognises also the loss of local employment, and the cumulative impact of these closures on footfall in our town centres, at a time when we are seeking to promote recovery from the pandemic;

  • notes the advice that the next nearest branch is in Cumbernauld, and recognises the impracticality of this as an option for customers in much of the area now served by the Kirkintilloch branch, in particular for those most likely to rely on in-branch services;

  • expresses its disappointment that communication relating to the closure of the Kirkintilloch branch was not shared with elected members representing the wider area served by the branch;

  • and instructs the Chief Executive to write to the TSB, deprecating the closure over the last two years of all local branches serving East Dunbartonshire, and urging the withdrawal of this latest proposal.

As instructed, the Motion was communicated to TSB, whose response is appended for Members’ information.
