Section

1. The purpose of this Technical Note is to advise Councillors of the range of measures the Council is undertaking to demonstrate its support for Ukraine and its horror at the illegal Russian invasion.

2. The Provost is writing to the Russian Ambassador to the UK, on behalf of the whole Council, calling on Russia to cease its illegal attack and observe international law, consistent with the approach being taken by COSLA and other local authorities across the whole UK.  The letter confirms our commitment to supporting the Ukrainian people in any way we can.

3. The Council is publicly showing its support for Ukraine and its people by lighting up key buildings in the colours of the Ukrainian flag.  The Community Hub in Bishopbriggs and the Lillie Art Gallery will both be lit yellow and blue for one week and the Community Hubs in Bearsden and Kirkintilloch alongside Milngavie Town Hall will be lit blue for one week from Tuesday 1 March.

4. The Ukrainian flag will also be flown alongside the Union Flag from the flagpoles at the Council’s Southbank Marina HQ this week.

5. The Council’s approach will be shared through the local media and social media.
