Section

  1. On Thursday 28 April, the Council will once again be marking International Workers’ Memorial Day.  We recognise this day on 28 April every year to remember those who have lost their lives at work, or from work related injury or illness, and events and activities take place right across the world.
  2. As part of the Council’s commemorations, the flags at our Southbank Marina HQ will fly at half-mast on the day and we will be encouraging everyone who is able to, to join in a one-minute silence at 12 noon. We will issue an email reminder of the one-minute silence on the morning of 28 April.

  3. The Council has traditionally held a commemorative event at the Cadder Pit memorial Cairn at Bishopbriggs Library & Hub. This year, given the ongoing concerns in relation to COVID-19 infection rates and the fact that we are in a pre-election period, numbers attending the 2022 event are being closely managed.

  4. Chief Executive Gerry Cornes will represent the Council and he, Trades Union colleagues and our Community Planning Partners will join together to lay wreaths at the Cairn at 1pm.

  5. All councillors are invited to attend the event, but any councillors or political parties that wish to lay a wreath may do so after the official brief ceremony has taken place.
