  1. The purpose of this Technical Note is to provide Elected Members with an update on the progress of the Canniesburn Toll Improvement Project (‘the project’), following on from the update provided within TN-138-22 (September 2022).

Project Update

  1. The Traffic & Transport Team has been developing proposals to improve Canniesburn Toll, Bearsden. The project will provide traffic signals to the junction as well as improved pedestrian facilities, provision of a limited number of parking spaces to service existing businesses, provide a betterment to a pre-existing drainage issue, upgrades to street lighting and changes to the footway and carriageway surface in the vicinity of the Toll.

 

  1. Since the previous update the detailed design has been finalised as well as project management consultant and construction contractor appointments made. The designs are provided as Appendix 1 to this note. The construction element of the project is expected to begin at the end of July into early August and is anticipated to run until spring 2024.  

 

  1. Meetings with the recently appointed contractor (MacLay’s) will take place over July to confirm detailed mobilisation and construction start dates and construction method arrangements. Although not expected, should the timescales for site start advised in this note change significantly Members will be provided with a further update.

 

  1. Officers will work with EDC Comms, the Contractor, and Project Management Consultant to ensure information is provided to local businesses within the vicinity of the Roundabout. Updates via the Council website and Social media will be provided to allow local people and user groups to access updates on the progression of the works.  

Next steps

  1. Officers will continue to update Elected Members on the progress of the project via Technical Notes and monthly HGIOS updates.
