Technical Notes 2023, Issue 130 - Rail Services – East Dunbartonshire - Response from Scottish Government
Section
At its meeting of 27 April 2023 East Dunbartonshire Council resolved as follows:
“This Council notes that
- Regular, reliable rail services are important for the local economy and to encourage people out of their cars and so help combat the climate crisis;
- The SNP/Green Government nationalised Scotrail just over a year ago;
- Off peak weekday and Saturday services on the Milngavie line are now half what they were when Scotrail was operated by a private company; and
- This Council has repeatedly raised the loss of services and poor performance on the Milngavie line with the Scottish Government.
Accordingly, this Council resolves to write again to the Scottish Transport Minister drawing his attention to the above and calling on the Scottish Government to
- Restore the services which have been cut from lines in East Dunbartonshire;
- Re-dual the Milngavie line; and
- Build a new station at the Allander”.
During the course of the debate, the Council further resolved to write to the First Minister and the Scottish Transport Minister extending an invitation to meet the political group leaders in East Dunbartonshire to discuss the above issues.
A copy of the response from the Scottish Government is attached for Members’ information.
