Section

  1. The purpose of this Technical Note is to provide Elected Members with further updates on the Canniesburn Toll Improvement Project (‘the Project’).  This follows recent updates in Technical Notes No. 096-24 of 7th June 2024; 075-24 of 3rd May 2024; 071-24 of 23rd April 2024; and 055-24 of 3rd April 2024.

  2. The previous Technical Note provided on 7th June 2024 (No. 096-24) advised that ongoing Traffic Management measures including sections of Moore Drive and the unnamed service road adjacent to Drymen Road are required to be closed from 18th June 2024 to 19th August 2024.

  3. To allow work to take place on the next phase of the programme, the section of MacFarlane Road, between its junctions with Canniesburn Toll Roundabout and the A81 Milngavie Road will require to be closed from 29th July 2024 to 31st August 2024.

  4. This closure is required to facilitate the new crossing and island on Macfarlane Road as well as the construction of new parking bays and improved footways outside the businesses.

  5. No further full road closures are required within the roundabout until resurfacing at the end of the programme. Lane closures will remain in place on the Toll.

  6. Business and residents’ access to these roads will be maintained and will be letter dropped two weeks in advance of the closure.

  7. Officers will continue to provide updates via Technical Notes and will highlight if any further extension or alterations to the traffic management is required to support the delivery of the project.

  8. Please note a planned closure of the site has been agreed between 12 July 2024 and 28 July 2024 for the Glasgow Fair Fortnight.  This is an annual occurrence for the appointed contractor’s entire business and formed part of the work programme agreed following the design changes detailed in Technical Note 055-24.  Officers will continue to monitor the site during this period to ensure it remains tidy and safe.
