Section

1. The purpose of this technical note is to advise Elected Members of the Gaelic Harvest Festival, celebrating Scottish Gaelic in East Dunbartonshire on Sunday 25 August from 1.00 pm till 4.00pm at Mugdock Country Park.

2. The Gaelic Harvest Festival is a Gaelic-themed event for all ages, featuring Gaelic language, music, song, sports, arts and crafts.  A variety of workshops are planned for all the family in the medium of Gaelic including shinty, crafts, singing, and musical performances featuring Meadowburn Primary School, storytelling and a themed tartan toadstool trail.

3. The expected outcomes for hosting the Gaelic Harvest Festival include:

  • Increased use and visibility of Gaelic during the event, helping to integrate the language into an everyday setting.
  • Enhanced connection with Gaelic and non-Gaelic communities.
  • Enhanced understanding and appreciation of the Gaelic-speaking community and increased participation in Gaelic language.
  • Improved awareness of the Gaelic Language Plan and encouraging on-going support and involvement.
