This Technical Note will be published on the Council’s website following circulation to Members. Its contents may be disclosed or shared out with the Council.

  1. The purpose of this Technical Note is to provide an update on the submission of a Planning Application for the affordable housing development at Nithsdale Crescent, Bearsden.

  2. The Planning Application will be submitted week commencing 14th October 2024. The proposal is for 32 affordable housing units including associated access, parking and landscaping. The proposals include for a mix of 1 and 2 bed flats and 3 bedroom townhouses with amenity and wheelchair provision. It should be noted that a concierge station is to be accommodated within the ground floor of Block 1 of the flats.

  3. Once validated, the application will be available to view in full via the Council’s on-line Planning portal. A copy of the proposed site layout for the development is attached as an Appendix to this technical note.

  4. If the planning application receives 6 or more letters of representation (objections) then it is currently expected to be considered at the Planning Board meeting of 4th February 2025. If fewer representations are made then a decision will be made under delegated powers.

  5. Officers continue to engage with the remaining two private owners in the remaining apartment block at Nithsdale Crescent, Bearsden. Whilst Officers first preference remains to acquire the block in full to support demolition and redevelopment as per the layout at detailed within the Appendix, alternative proposals are being developed simultaneously in the event that the Council is unable to acquire the remaining properties in private ownership.

  6. Updates on the project and on delivery of the wider affordable housing investment programme (AHIP2) will continue to be provided to the PNCA Committee via the Housing Capital Programme Monitoring Report.
