Section
The Canal Project of Industry Street, Kirkintilloch, provides interim supported accommodation for young people, where a third party is the current tenant and service provider, the property being owned by the Council.
The lease (and contract’s) natural expiry is 31 March 2024, meaning notice needs to be served to terminate the lease and this will happen by 16 February 2024. This notice will bring the end to the lease and the current service provided.
Accordingly, plans are in place for the young people who are currently temporarily residing within this address. There will be the continuation of support through placement in alternative accommodation, which will include Ravenswood, Hillhead Street, Drymen Road and self-contained temporary accommodation.
The Homelessness Team is working with colleagues in progressing a procurement process to allow tenders and then the awarding of a new contract later in 2024. During the vacant period of the property then refurbishment work will take place to improve the accommodation for all future residents, and in line with new temporary accommodation standards.
The refurbished property and service will provide Rapid Access Accommodation for a wider age group of individuals who require accommodation in East Dunbartonshire and will provide all necessary support.
Further updates will be provided on progress in the coming months.
