Technical Notes 2024, Issue 71 - Canniesburn Toll Improvement Project – Project update
Section
- The purpose of this Technical Note is to provide Elected Members with further updates on the Canniesburn Toll Improvement Project (‘the Project’). This follows recent updates in Technical Notes No. 055-23 of 3rd April 2024, 040-24 of 12th March 2024, and 027-24 of 21st February 2024.
- A response from Scottish Water has been sought for approximately 3 months to confirm methodology relating to the diversion of piping resulting from other utility apparatus discovered through the excavation of the site. As advised in previous Technical Notes, a range of due diligence was undertaken to de-risk the project relating to utility apparatus.
- Scottish Water have now engaged and agreed, and the necessary works are being programmed in. Regrettably the delays associated with Scottish Water are outwith the Council’s control but mean the Traffic Management closure that was due to be lifted on 22nd April requires an initial extension until 31st May. Based on Scottish Water advice, Officers anticipate the closures within the roundabout will be further extended to the end of June 2024. These timeframes will be reviewed on an ongoing basis in liaison with Scottish Water and extended if required to facilitate the necessary works.
- Other works will continue in and around this area of the roundabout. At this stage there are no anticipated change to the overall project completion date of the end of September 2024, as reported in Technical Note No. 055-23.
- The current Traffic Management (TM) includes some lane closures, and the closure of only a small section of road within the roundabout, between Switchback Northbound and Southbound.
Next steps
- Officers will continue to update Elected Members via Technical Notes on the progression of the project including programme.
- The project webpage will be updated shortly to provide further details on work progress and future stages.
