Corporate Parenting Training

Thursday 30 October 2025
10am-12.30pm
The Broadcroft Hotel

Who Cares? Scotland will be delivering corporate parenting training aimed at Elected Members, IJB, Executive Officers, Strategic Leads and Managers. This training is a key part of East Dunbartonshire’s plan to improve support for care experienced children and young people. The training event will take place on Thursday 30th Oct 10am-12.30pm.

Over the last few years East Dunbartonshire has made important progress in improving how we listen to and support care experienced young people. We’ve strengthened participation through the Champs Board, worked across services to improve access to housing, education and mental health support, and responded to The Promise by rethinking how we design and deliver services.

A draft of our Corporate Parenting Strategy (2025–2028) has been developed in collaboration with young people and partners. It outlines our shared vision, key priorities, and a clear action plan that is directly informed by care experienced voices.

To embed this approach across all levels of the council and HSCP and ensure shared responsibility, we are rolling out training to key leaders — including IJB, Elected Members, Executive Officers and strategic decision-makers.

The training will be delivered by Who Cares? Scotland in consultation with the champs board, the session will include:

  • What is care experience? – exploring lived experience and the diversity within the care community
  • Corporate parenting in policy and practice – understanding our duties under the Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014 and beyond
  • An overview of key issues – including education, housing, relationships, stigma and transitions into adulthood
  • How you can play your role  including practical actions leaders can take to create change and champion care experienced people

Everyone attending this training is a corporate parent and has an important role in ensuring that care experienced young people in East Dunbartonshire are not only safe, but loved, respected, and supported to thrive. The training is fully funded by The Scottish Government.
