This Technical Note will be published on the Council’s website following circulation to Members. Its contents may be disclosed or shared out with the Council.

  • The purpose of this Technical Note is to advise Elected Members of planned site investigation (SI) works required to confirm the location of a Scottish Water Trunk Main at Initiative Road, adjacent to Whitegates Park.
  • Desktop assessment of the site identified a Water Trunk Main, which is believed to be located between the embankment adjacent to Initiative Road and the road itself, adjacent to Whitegates Park.
  • Whilst the design proposals for the project already take the presence of the Water Main into account, determining the exact location of the infrastructure will allow for the detailed construction planning, including design and approvals, required to re-route the Trunk Main as part of the future development of the site.
  • The survey will consist of 10 trial holes to a depth of approximately 1 - 2 metres. The trial holes will be excavated by a mini digger initially and then by hand. The attached site plan shows the proposed locations of the trial holes.
  • At the request of Scottish Water, soil samples will also be taken during this round of SI, with survey results supporting the detailed design of any diversion works required as part of the proposed development.
  • Each trial hole will be sectioned off by fencing during the survey works, which will then be removed upon completion of each dig and reinstatement. All areas will be reinstated upon completion of each with existing turf.
  • Due to the proximity of Initiative Road, a lane closure will require to be in place for the full duration of the works to create a safe working area for the SI contractor.
  • The surveys will commence on Monday, 6 October 2025 and conclude on Friday, 10 October 2025.
  • Notice of the surveys will be communicated via the project website and through the Council’s social media channels.
