  • Responsible Officer:

Thomas McMenamin – Executive Officer Roads & Neighbourhood Services

  • Publication:

This Technical Note will be published on the Council’s website following circulation to Members. Its contents may be disclosed or shared outwith the Council.

  • The purpose of this Technical Note is to update Members on the continued closure of Twechar Road, Twechar due to surface water flooding which has been compound by freezing temperatures.
  • As per the notification earlier today (Friday 21 November 2025) the temporary road closure on Twechar Road has had to be extended - view Road closures and road works - East Dunbartonshire Council

A map of a road closure. It crosses Board Craigs Wood, West broad farm and Broadloch wood

  • The surface water remains an issue, and this has been compounded by freezing temperatures

  • The relevant East Dunbartonshire Council Roads Officers are working with the local landowners to address the root cause of the issue which is preventing the surface water from dissipating

  • I can advise that the issue appears to be a blocked culvert within the private quarry. However, the landowner is committed to addressing the issue following the earlier site visit

  • Unfortunately, the issue will not be resolved until week commencing Monday 24 November at the earliest

  • The Service is monitoring the road closure as the team has received reports of motorist removing the signs and cones to drive through the road closure

  • It is appreciated that a road closure can cause frustration, but this is in place temporarily and for the safety of road users

  • The Service will work with the relevant parties to clear the flooded are and reopen the road when it is safe to do.
