    This Technical Note will be published on the Council’s website following circulation to Members. Its contents may be disclosed or shared outwith the Council.

  • The purpose of this Technical Note is to provide Members with details of the ongoing consultation regarding the future of Council Tax.
  • Members will recall that a report outlining the ongoing Scottish Government consultation regarding the future of council tax in Scotland was submitted to the meeting of Council held on 18 December 2025. During that meeting, Council agreed the draft consultation response prepared by officers and agreed that political parties submit political responses separately from the corporate response.
  • During the meeting on 18 December 2025, officers undertook to provide Members with a link to the consultation and explanatory documentation. The consultation can be found on the Scottish Government website.
  • The webpage provides background information and a link to the response template. Members should note that the consultation closes on 30 January 2026.
