Technical Notes 2025, Issue 44 - Change to Residual Collection Frequency - Contingency Collections
- The purpose of this Technical Note is to advise Members of the contingency arrangement being implemented by Waste Services to support residents in the transition to a 3 weekly residual waste collection cycle.
- Waste Services have carried out an extensive routing exercise to ensure that the new residual waste collections operate efficiently and effectively. As a result of the exercise, there will be changes to resident collection days.
- The last collections of the fortnightly cycle will commence from Sunday 16 March with the gradual transition to a 3-weekly cycle across each collection route.
- It has been identified that initially 13,595 properties will exceed a 21-day period between their last fortnightly waste collection and their first three weekly collection. Unfortunately, this is unavoidable for the first round of collections until the new routes are fully implemented.
- To minimise disruption the Waste Service will carry out contingency collection over the transition period for those 13,595 properties affected.
- Those properties identified will receive a one-off collection on week commencing Monday 31 Due to the importance of this contingency plans and to ensure all affected households know about the additional collection, each property will receive a specific notification letter notifying them of the transition collection arrangement.
- The letter will advise householders to leave the bin presented on the pavement from 7am on Monday 31 March and the team will carry out collections over the course of that week.
- Information will also be shared on the Council website and social media platforms from Friday 14 This information will provide residents with new general waste collection days and detail of the supporting contingency collection arrangements.
