This Technical Note will be published on the Council’s website following circulation to Members. Its contents may be disclosed or shared outwith the Council.

  • The purpose of this Technical Note is to update Members in relation to an historic incident at Balmuildy Primary School
  • Members may be aware that during February 2020, Balmuildy Primary School was evacuated due to a carbon monoxide leak Following investigation, the leak was traced to a backup gas fired boiler, which was activated due to the particularly cold weather at the time
  • The Council immediately reported itself to the Health & Safety Executive as a result and co-operated with that agency’s investigation. This investigation subsequently led to a referral to the Procurator Fiscal
  • The Procurator Fiscal charged the Council under summary complaint, as opposed to indictment. The Council pled guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court earlier today
  • In disposing of the matter, the Sheriff fined the Council £20,000 which was reduced to £13,333.33 in response to the Council pleading guilty at the earliest opportunity. A victim surcharge of £999.98 was also applied.
