Technical Notes 2026, Issue 154 - Email received by schools – Bomb Hoax
- On Monday 19 October 2026, prior to 9am, the majority of East Dunbartonshire Schools (and schools in other Scottish and Northern Irish Local Authority areas) received an email from a same source with regard to a bomb threat
- As soon as we were aware of this, Education invoked their Civil Contingency procedures and liaised with the relevant authorities
- Schools were contacted to advise of the situation and that we were liaising with Police Scotland
- When Police Scotland confirmed it was a hoax, communication was emailed to parents/carers to advise of this
- Further communication was sent to all parents / carers again on Tuesday 20 October to confirm it was a hoax and that the schools would be supporting pupils who were concerned regarding the threat
- Schools followed their own procedures and processes with regards to this matter and these were carried out accordingly, with guidance from Police Scotland. This included a security sweep of buildings by the Head Teacher and Building Manage
- No school within East Dunbartonshire was closed due to this hoax email notification.
