Bishopbriggs Taxi Stance – Public Consultation
Consultation is taking place with members of the public and stakeholders to help drive forward plans for a taxi rank (also known as a taxi stance) in the Bishopbriggs area.
It follows consultation with taxi drivers and operators in October 2025, which has helped to narrow down four potential options to two preferred proposals – Option A and Option B.
We want you to have a say on which one the Council should now choose.
Option A is located at the shops on Kirkintilloch Road and Option B is closer to the railway station.
Find out more and get involved via our StoryMap below – which includes a short survey. The consultation closes at midnight on Friday 20 March 2026.

History
In Bishopbriggs, work has been taking place to find a suitable location for a taxi stance.
Previously, an informal taxi rank operated from the area between Morrisons and St Matthew’s Church. However, that was fenced off by the supermarket following road layout changes.
Discussions have taken place between the Council and Morrisons regarding town centre redevelopment plans. However, the Council has been informed that a designated, formal taxi rank within the store car park is not an option due to limited space.
As part of the Bishopbriggs Public Realm Plan, design consultants engaged with East Dunbartonshire Taxi Owners Association and discussed their preferred location for a taxi rank within Bishopbriggs town centre.
Incorporating a taxi rank within plans for a new Civic Space being created nearby did not meet the wider objectives for that location in the town centre or the specific use agreed with the landowner for the space.
Further options were reviewed by officers in Licensing – together with colleagues in Roads and Land Planning & Development – which were considered at a meeting of the Policy and Resources Committee in September 2025.
Four options were presented as part of the taxi trade consultation in October 2025. These have now been narrowed down to two.
Stances in other areas
Proposals for taxi ranks in Kirkintilloch and Milngavie were approved by the Council's Policy and Resources Committee in November 2024 and the necessary Traffic Regulation Orders are being progressed.
Meanwhile, appropriate options for taxi stances within Bearsden are currently being considered.
