Local Outcome 3: Oxgang Primary School makes the grade in Education Scotland Inspection Report
Schools across East Dunbartonshire work towards criteria set by Education Scotland to ensure the best possible outcomes for our children and young people.
Oxgang Primary School in Kirkintilloch received an outstanding Education Scotland Inspection Report in January 2024, after an inspection in November 2023. The report highlighted the positive relationships, successful planning/evaluation, equal learning opportunities, a nurturing environment and all efforts towards the children and staff’s wellbeing and fulfilment.
During the inspection Oxgang Primary School, Kirkintilloch had 243 children registered and over 10 classes. Over half of the school pupils attend through a placing request.
The inspection awarded the following ratings:
- Leadership of change - very good
- Ensuring wellbeing, equality and inclusion - very good
- Raising attainment and achievement – good
The inspection team also noted the following achievements of the school:
- The strong leadership of the headteacher, who is well respected by staff, children, parents and partners. The inspection team observed that the headteacher is leading and managing the direction and pace of change very well, supported ably by senior leaders.
- The positive relationships across the whole school community which are based on the school values. Children across the school are happy and respectful. They learn and achieve in a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment.
- The staff team, who are making a difference for all children. They use highly effective approaches to develop children’s and parents’ knowledge and understanding of their wellbeing. This is helping children and parents to manage more effectively their own wellbeing and that of others.
- All staff have a detailed understanding of children’s individual circumstances and wellbeing needs. They use Pupil Equity Funding effectively and partnership working creatively to achieve positive learning outcomes for children.
The staff at Oxgang Primary School have shown a comprehensive understanding of each pupils varied needs and backgrounds. The report also highlighted the wide inclusivity of the primary school and the staff’s positive relationships with pupils. The pupils have shown to communicate confidently about the wide range of opportunities they have received. The repost stated they feel welcomed, included, and valued by adults. Both the children and the staff are proud of their school and its environment.
The Pupil Equity Funding was used efficiently alongside partnership working to provide the best learning experience for the school pupils.
Chief Education Officer, Greg Bremner said “Oxgang Primary school received a tremendous report in January which continues to reflect the hard work of the entire school. The school leadership as well as the pupils and their families have played a massive role in achieving this. The school have continued to work hard to create a nurturing, safe and productive environment.”
Mr Bremner added, “Oxgang Primary school is one of the many schools in East Dunbartonshire which consistently receives high ratings in Education Scotland inspections.
