Back

Dear all,

It’s the October break so I know many of you have taken this week off to spend with your families – if you are taking some leave this week, I hope you are having a lovely time.

In the last few weeks, we’ve once again had to deal with bad weather. This time it was Storm Amy and I would like to thank everyone who worked hard to minimise the impact, mainly over the weekend, to ensure roads were opened as soon as possible and fallen trees were dealt with.
It’s only a few weeks until Remembrance Sunday, which falls on Sunday 9 November this year. As always there will be events held in towns and villages across the area, giving local people the opportunity to pay their respects and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, including the official Council event in Bearsden.

Final details are still being collated but keep an eye on the website and social media for information on your local service. Over that weekend some of our Council buildings will be lit up red in support of Poppy Scotland. As ever a huge thank-you to everyone involved in the organisation of our annual Remembrance activity.

Climate Action Plan Consultation

This week we launched our consultation on the Council's draft Climate Action Plan (CAP). The CAP aims to guide local efforts to tackle climate issues affecting East Dunbartonshire, Scotland and the world.
As well as setting out objectives and future actions, the draft CAP details work which has already taken place and is ongoing – within the Council and East Dunbartonshire. You can read a summary, access the full plan and have a say via the Council website.

Intranet Replacement Project

As part of our wider digital transformation programme, we are progressing with decommissioning The Hub, making the Employee Zone the official Council intranet.

The Hub needs replaced as the platform is no longer supported, meaning there are security and development restrictions. It also doesn’t meet all the Accessibility and contains out-of-date information. The Employee Zone was created on the Council’s website during COVID to ensure non-networked employees could access the same information as those networked via their personal devices.

As this area of the site is for the workforce, these pages are not part of the main website site structure and cannot be found via online searches. While content has been migrated over, work is still ongoing to replace internal online forms. Once this is complete, an Employee News will be issued updating everyone on the official Hub decommissioning date.

Financial Awareness Sessions

Further Financial Awareness sessions have been organised for the next few months. The sessions will focus on providing valuable and helpful information to potentially assist with future financial decisions and money management. You can find out more information on the Employee Zone.

Monthly Wellbeing Focus

As usual, our Monthly Wellbeing Focus updated each month with key campaigns and details of support all employees can access.

Any employee can also sign up and attend the free TimeforTalking webinar focusing on bereavement. ‘Healing through Loss: Navigating Bereavement with Strength and Support’ will be held on 28 October at 6pm. You can sign up by visiting the TimeForTalking website.

And Finally….

Congratulations to Turnbull High School for achieving a Gold Award accreditation in the Scottish Book Trust’s Reading Schools Programme. The prestigious award recognises the efforts of staff and pupils to focus on the importance of reading for pleasure, and taking that message out to other schools and community organisations.

Thanks,

Ann
