Felicitaciones, Herzlichen Glückwunsch, Gratuluję and Congratulations!

A team of four quiz brains from Millersneuk Primary in Lenzie has won the Council-wide heats of the annual Euroquiz competition and will go on to represent East Dunbartonshire in the national finals.

The P6 pupils took on 28 teams from schools across the area in the virtual quiz and came up trumps with their knowledge of all things European. They will face 32 other teams from all parts of Scotland when they attend the national finals at the McEwan Hall in Edinburgh on Tuesday 13 June 2023.

The quiz is organised by the Council’s Education Service and the Scottish European Educational Trust, with support from the European Parliament Office in the UK. Questions cover topics such as history, geography, culture, European affairs, general knowledge and pupils’ knowledge of French, German, Spanish and Italian.

Joint runners-up in the East Dunbartonshire heats were Lenzie Meadow Primary and Mosshead Primary in Bearsden.

Convener of the Council’s Education Committee, Lynda Williamson joined online to welcome all the competitors and wish them well and was impressed by the knowledge on display.

She said, “It was a pleasure to be involved in this long-standing event and to see just how hard the young people and their teachers had worked to prepare for the competition. Their knowledge and language skills were simply amazing.

Well done to everyone who took part but special congratulations to Millersneuk Primary – well deserved winners on the day! I wish them the best of luck for the national finals and know that they will be excellent ambassadors for the school and the Council.
