People, organisations and businesses are being invited to give their views on a new Statement of Licensing Policy for the area.

East Dunbartonshire Licensing Board (EDLB) is required to publish a statement within 18 months of an ordinary election of councillors on how it aims to promote the five objectives contained within the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005.

These are:

  • Preventing crime and disorder
  • Securing public safety
  • Preventing public nuisance
  • Protecting and improving public health
  • Protecting children and young people from harm.

EDLB's new Statement of Licensing Policy covers a range of matters – including overprovision, opening hours and outdoor areas.

The draft document, which is being issued to a range of consultees, is available at local libraries and via the Council website.

The closing date for comments is 18 September 2023.

Convener of East Dunbartonshire Licensing Board, Councillor Stewart MacDonald, said, "I hope as many people as possible can spare the time to reflect on this vital document, which the Licensing Board will use as the basis for its decisions to regulate the sale of alcohol in East Dunbartonshire.

"All comments received will be considered by members of the board before a decision is made on the final policy statement. Please visit the webpage to find out more."
