Lennoxtown residents and visitors are being invited to have their say on proposals to regenerate two underused greenspaces in the town.

The existing red blaes pitches at Station Road Park and Ferguson Park have been identified as being in poor condition and underutilised.

Due to their characteristics, blaes pitches are no longer used as ball sport pitches and have poor environmental qualities.

The Lennoxtown Greenspace Improvement project – fully funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund - aims to provide sustainable solutions for the parks that will create more attractive, biodiverse and used spaces for the benefit of the people of Lennoxtown and the surrounding areas.

Councillor Paul Ferretti, Convener of the Council's Place, Neighbourhood and Corporate Assets Committee, said,

The Council wants to bring these areas back into popular use and is looking for residents to get involved and tell us their views on the proposed designs.

“The principles of the designs are that they allow for incremental improvement to occur, with an initial concentration on creating simple, attractive, well-connected spaces that make the most of the natural characteristics of the sites.

“We want the views of people who live in, work in, and visit Lennoxtown to help shape the future of these greenspaces by completing a short online survey. The survey will be open from Monday 3 July until the end of Monday 31 July  and your responses and feedback will help us refine the designs.”

The proposals for Station Road Park include an improved entrance, a grass pitch, new seating and paths, woodland planting, wildflower meadow creation and a widening of the existing railway path.

Plans for Ferguson Park include similar elements along with a potential footbridge link over the Glazert Water to link the park to Milton Road.

Other design elements could include sculptural items suitable for an outdoor gym or environmental play, climbing boulders and artwork included within the path design.

The connections to the railway path are important to the designs and the new and improved paths are based on observations from routes that are already informally taken by people in the area.

Both parks have a high likelihood of flooding, which has informed the designs so that any future uses should be sufficiently robust to withstand reasonably predictable conditions.

You can view the designs and complete a short survey with your views by visiting the Consultation web page before the end of Monday 31 July.

The designs will also be on display at the ‘What Makes Lennoxtown?’ drop-in event on Saturday 24 June at Campsie Memorial Hall between 12.30-3pm. This is a chance to see an exhibition of works created by people across Lennoxtown and also speak to Council officers about the proposals to regenerate the parks.
