Provost Gillian Renwick has announced the winners of the six categories in her inaugural Community Champion Awards.

Following an intense judging session where the Provost and Depute Provost reviewed the wide selection of submissions in each of the six categories, they have agreed the 2023 Award recipients.

Provost Renwick said,

Community Champion Awards 2023 Categories Community Champion Young Champion Caring Champion Sports Champion Arts & Heritage Champion Sustainability Champion

We had the privilege of reading about some amazing people from right across East Dunbartonshire, so firstly a huge thank you to all those who took the time and effort to nominate.

“We have some fantastic, inspirational individuals of all ages in our communities, and it really was a pleasure to read about the wonderful contributions and the positive impact and real difference that everyone who was nominated has made to those around them.

“Selecting the winners from such worthy nominations was difficult!

“In our Young Champions category, there were two young people who stood out amongst the range of wonderful submissions we received, and we felt it appropriate to recognise them both.”

The winners in the six categories were as follows:

  • Community Champion           Lorraine MacDonald
  • Young Champions                 Ruby Hannon and Sarah Aitken
  • Caring Champion                  Mhairi Green
  • Sports Champion                  Barbara Knox
  • Arts & Heritage Champion     Paul Bishop (posthumous)
  • Sustainability Champion        Amanda Stark

Provost Renwick continued, “The Depute Provost and I now have the privilege of going and meeting each of our 2023 winners and presenting them with their awards.

“We will promote all our amazing winners in the coming weeks, highlighting their achievements as we present them with their awards. I will also be inviting them to join me as my guests at the Civic Reception I host on the Gala Night of the Canal Festival in August.”
