Ahoy me hearties – it has been confirmed that Kirkintilloch Canal Festival will return this August!
The popular celebration of all things nautical and nice will once again be offering a swashbuckling mix of live music, fireworks, family fun and boat trips – culminating on Saturday and Sunday 26 and 27 August 2023.
Details are still being finalised so keep your eyes on the horizon for more news coming soon.
The Council is organising the festival – which attracts estimated combined crowds of around 25,000 - in conjunction with a range of public and private sector partners, including East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture (EDLC) Trust.
Councillor Gordan Low, Leader of East Dunbartonshire Council, said,
"We're working hard to ensure it once again offers a mix of entertainment for people of all ages from East Dunbartonshire and beyond.
"We're conscious that many families are facing unprecedented financial challenges at the moment so will be doing all we can to offer as many free activities as possible.
"The festival gives residents and visitors the chance to get active and have fun, whilst also attracting more people to the area – boosting the local economy. Look out for more news soon."
The family-friendly festival will take place on Saturday 26 August, from 5pm to 10pm at Southbank Marina and on Sunday 27 August, noon to 5pm at the Marina, Townhead, Cowgate and Barleybank. There will also be activity in the week leading up to the festival.
The festival links the Council with the following partners: Kirkintilloch Baptist Church, Regent Centre, Police Scotland, New Lanarkshire College, Forth and Clyde Canal Society, Seagull Trust, Scottish Canals, EDLC, Your Kirky and trader groups to pull together a programme of activity for the community to enjoy.
