A special exhibition is being hosted by the Lillie Art Gallery – 50 years after the artist's work was shown at a previous display in the Milngavie venue.
Gavin Nicol's ‘A Search for Truth’ will be available to view from Saturday 7 October until 19 December 2023, featuring a range of drawings and paintings – including still life, landscape and figurative pieces.
Mr Nicol's works graced various venues throughout his life, including the Lillie Art Gallery in 1973.
He was born in Greenock in 1927 and began evening classes at the age of 16 at the Glasgow School of Art (GSA) before being called up into the RAF – serving in England, India and Pakistan.
Attending the GSA as a day student from 1949, he travelled to Paris and then spent the summer of 1953 at Hospitalfield, Arbroath. He was a teacher, an artist and a book illustrator.
Mr Nicol passed away in March 2020 at the age of 92. The free exhibition at the Lillie has been organised by his widow, Frances.
An opening event will take place on Saturday 7 October from 2.30pm. All welcome.
