East Dunbartonshire Council is putting plans in motion to deliver an Active Travel Corridor between Torrance and Milngavie and it wants local communities to have their say.

The A807 Active Travel Corridor would see an improved walking, wheeling and cycling connection between the two areas – from Milngavie Railway Station to the Torrance Roundabout.

It’s part of the Council’s aspiration within its Local Transport Strategy 2020-2025 to create a circular active travel route connecting the majority of the settlements in East Dunbartonshire.

It was identified that one major gap was an east-west connection and, following a feasibility study in 2022, the Council, supported by funding from Transport Scotland and Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT), commissioned Sweco to undertake design works on the project.

We want to increase the number of active travel journeys in the area by making it safer and more enjoyable to travel by walking, wheeling and cycling between Torrance and Milngavie.
Councillor Paul Ferretti, Convener of East Dunbartonshire Council’s Place, Neighbourhood and Corporate Assets Committee

“As part of this, we are looking at improving pedestrian connectivity within the villages, including proposals for signalised pedestrian crossing points, and providing onward connections to Bearsden, Bishopbriggs and beyond.

“Concept designs have now been produced which showcase the proposed improvements across the area and we want the views of local communities and users of the route on the proposals.

“These are only proposals at this stage as the final designs will be subject to change depending on a number of factors.”
