Congratulations to Euan Kemp, a sixth-year pupil at the Music School of Douglas Academy in Milngavie, who has won the Scottish Young Musician’s Solo Performer of the Year 2024 award.
Euan, who is a saxophonist, was up against 31 of the best young musicians from across Scotland at the third Solo Performer of the Year Final at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
Euan’s rendition of Improvisation No.1 by Ryo Noda and Fantaisie-Impromptu by André Jolivet, impressed the judges and he was crowned the third ever winner of the competition.
Euan said,
I’ve been making music in East Dunbartonshire for the whole of my musical career, starting with the children’s chorus in P2 and then growing through playing in orchestras and ensembles both in school and the wider local authority area. It’s such a nurturing, supportive and enjoyable environment to be a part of and I’m proud to bring this trophy home to them.”
The Council’s Chief Education Officer, Greg Bremner, said,
all his hard work and dedication to music over the years has led to him winning the Scottish Young Musician Solo Performer of the Year award. I know his teachers, family and friends will all be immensely proud of him, and quite rightly, it is a fantastic achievement. I’d also like to congratulate Evans from Lenzie Academy and Amy from Douglas Academy who also made it to the final. We are privileged to have so many gifted musicians within East Dunbartonshire schools and it is wonderful to see their outstanding talents being recognised at this highly prestigious competition. Well done to you all!”
