Children in Waterside are going wild for a wonderful new play facility constructed by the Council.

Waterside Play Area – located just off Taig Road - opened at the beginning of May and is already proving highly popular with the local community.

The new play area contains a wide variety of equipment, with the winning design voted for by the residents of Waterside.

Councillor Pamela Marshall – Vice Convener of the Council’s Place, Neighbourhood and Corporate Assets Committee - officially opened the impressive new £150,000 play facility, along with children from Gartconner Primary School and Woodland View School.

Councillor Pamela Marshall – Vice Convener of the Council’s Place, Neighbourhood and Corporate Assets Committee - officially opened the impressive new £150,000 play facility, along with children from Gartconner Primary School and Woodland View School.

The new play area – which was funded through a Play Space contribution primarily due to the construction of the adjacent Woodland View School – includes equipment that can be enjoyed by children of all ages and abilities.

Councillor Marshall
This play area is a stunning new facility and I know it has been something the residents of Waterside have been wanting for a while.

“Consultation was key to the creation of this project. Working in conjunction with Waterside Community Council, several consultations have taken place over the years that led to the creation of a Waterside Community Action Plan and the Waterside Greenspace Improvement Plan.

“It was through these consultations that the location for the new play area was chosen. The local community then had the final say on what play area they wanted from a choice of three designs at an all-day voting event held in the village last December.

“The end result is a fabulous new play area that already seems to be hugely popular with the young people of the Waterside area and I’m sure will be well used for many years to come.”

The fabulous new facility includes a double-bay set of swings containing an inclusive swing. For younger children, there are two cradle swings and a carer and tot swing - the first of its kind in East Dunbartonshire which allows an adult and a small child to swing together.

In addition, there is a large rope swing, two flat swings and the popular basket swing while an impressive multi-play unit also contain a large chute and play panels.

Youngsters will also be in a spin thanks to two springies, an inclusive roundabout, a “rock n bowl” roundabout, a four-seat springy see-saw and for the adventurous there is the Surf Spinner, which is guaranteed to get your head spinning.
