A team of four quiz brains from Baljaffray Primary in Bearsden has won the Council-wide heats of the annual Euroquiz competition and will go on to represent East Dunbartonshire in the national finals.

The P6 pupils took on 28 teams from schools across the area in the quiz and came up trumps with their knowledge of all things European. They will face 32 other teams from all parts of Scotland when they attend the national finals in Edinburgh in June.
The quiz is organised by the Council’s Education Service and Scotland’s National Centre for Languages, with support from the European Parliament Office in the UK. Questions cover topics such as history, geography, culture, European affairs, general knowledge and pupils’ knowledge of French, German, Spanish and Italian.
Runners-up in the East Dunbartonshire heats this year were Millersneuk Primary in Lenzie.

Convener of the Council’s Education Committee, Lynda Williamson helped to host the quiz, which was held at Douglas Academy in Milngavie, and was impressed by the knowledge on display.
For me, helping to host the annual Euroquiz is one of the highlights of being the Convener of Education; I am always blown away by the young peoples’ knowledge and language skills.
"Once again, the young people and their teachers worked extremely hard preparing for the competition and I’d like to congratulate everyone involved – it was a great day.
“Special congratulations go to Baljaffray Primary School for winning the regional heats. I wish them the very best of luck in the national competition and I am confident they will do extremely well and do East Dunbartonshire proud.”
