Are you worried that an adult could be at risk of neglect or self-neglect?
Residents across East Dunbartonshire are being asked to be alert to vulnerable adults in their communities who may be at risk of harm.
Adult Support and Protection Day takes place on Friday (20 February 2026) and the East Dunbartonshire Health & Social Care Partnership (HSCP) is urging people to report any concerns to ensure those in need are responded to.
The special awareness day should act as a reminder that everyone has a role to play in Adult Support and Protection and that anyone with concerns should speak up as the person may not be able to do so themselves.
Libby Cairns, Chair of the East Dunbartonshire Integration Joint Board which oversees the work of the HSCP said, “Everyone has the right to be safe and protected and we all have a responsibility to look out for the more vulnerable people in our communities who may be at risk.
“If you are worried about a vulnerable adult, if you think “something just isn’t right” or you have a concern that someone is not being treated properly please let us know. It is everybody’s business to ensure vulnerable people across our communities are safe from harm. Please make that call and we will act quickly and discretely.”
We all have a role to play in keeping vulnerable people safe. If you see something you’re worried about, then please say something.
Brenda Walker, National Adult Support and Protection Coordinator for Scotland, added, “We know it’s hard to be the person who takes that step, and makes the referral for someone they are concerned about. Sometimes we assume someone else has probably done something about the concerns, especially if there are already some services involved with the adult, but you might just have the missing piece of the jigsaw that shows they need support and protection.
“We all have a role to play in keeping vulnerable people safe. If you see something you’re worried about, then please say something.”
