A fantastic new playpark has been officially opened at Mugdock Country Park just in time for the school summer holidays.
Located on the site of the original playpark, the brand-new playground has transformed the area near the Courtyard into a high-quality destination park to attract young visitors from far and wide.
The facility was funded with £120,000 from the Scottish Government’s Play Park Renewal Programme, alongside funding from East Dunbartonshire Council and Stirling Council.
Councillor Jim Gibbons, Chair of Mugdock Park Joint Management Committee, was joined by visiting pupils from Holy Family Primary School at the official opening. He said, "I am absolutely delighted to see this fabulous new playpark now open to the public. The recent good weather has seen lots of visitors enjoying the new play features, which has been wonderful to see.
“The quality and variety of play equipment is second to none and has been designed to appeal to a wide range of ages. We know that visitors have always been drawn to the walking opportunities in the park, along with its natural beauty and wildlife.
The completion of this ambitious play area provides yet another reason for people to travel to Mugdock Country Park, both now and for many years to come.
The layout is generous with plenty of space and the play features have been selected to provide a variety of physical challenges, as well as to fire the imagination. Secure fencing provides a safe and enclosed space.
The centrepiece is an eye-catching one-of-a-kind owl play structure which has its own slide and rope climb. Other creatures that live at Mugdock are here too, with wooden sculptures including a pine marten, a red squirrel and fox.
Other highlights include a swan springer, a spinner bowl, several different types of swings and a fantasy “warlocks escape” zipline. There is also an inclusive, frog seesaw and tipi carousel and a minibeast sensory panel for younger children.
The park is the latest to be revamped by East Dunbartonshire Council. Councillor Paul Ferretti, convener of the Place, Neighbourhood and Corporate Assets committee, said, “As with all our new playparks, the community was involved in choosing the final design for this project. The winning design was voted for from a choice of four shortlisted options.
“This extensive upgrade of the play area at Mugdock Country Park is one of seven play parks that have been renovated across East Dunbartonshire in the last year. The scale and quality of this new play park mark a real enhancement to the facilities on offer at Mugdock and will secure its place as a must-visit destination for many years to come.”
