Electric Vehicle Charging Points
EV Chargers
EV Chargers are located in all of our towns and major villages. We run three types of charging points:
- Rapid (22-50kW): Rapid chargers are ideal when a vehicle needs a substantial charge quickly
- Fast (22kW): Fast chargers are ideal for when a vehicle needs a substantial charge over a period of up to three hours
- Standard (7kW): Standard chargers are ideal for charging vehicles when they can be left for longer periods of time.
Tariff
Following approval at Committee on 22 June 2023, the Council introduced tariffs for the use of Electric Vehicle (EV) charge points from 2 October 2023.

Maximum Stay
The Rapid Chargers will have a one hour maximum stay. Using the bay for more than one hour will be considered ‘bay blocking’ and an additional £30 overstay charge will be applied. This is a charge administered by Charge Place Scotland and is automatically applied to the customer’s account on top of the cost of that charging session.
Please note that no refunds will be made for any overstay fees incurred.
All of the Government provided public charge points can be found on the Charge Place Scotland. Other charge points are available across East Dunbartonshire from private companies. You can check the current network on the Zap Map website and the AutoTrader Charging Points Map.

Please note that the Councils Parking Enforcement Team are not responsible for any charges incurred during a ChargePlace Scotland charging session. However, separate Parking Enforcement may be in operation at that location and drivers should also ensure they are aware of parking restrictions to avoid any enforcement action. This includes potential parking fines for any vehicle that parks in an EV charger parking bay without using the charger.
The Tariff will be under regular review and may change in response to changes in the cost of providing this service. The Tariff rate has been set to allow a sustainable service at a break-even and cost recovery basis. Any surplus income over the associated costs will be reinvested back into electric vehicle infrastructure to improving and expanding the network.
No details customer account details are held by East Dunbartonshire Council. All matters relating to billing, payments or tariff collection issues are handled by ChargePlace Scotland who are the administrators for the network. Faults can be reported directly to ChargePlace Scotland via the app, by calling on 0141 648 0750, or by using the report a fault form
Users should quote the unique ID number on the unit when reporting a fault.
Users are encouraged to use the chargers responsibly and to follow the network's Etiquette Guide.
Faults should not be reported to the Council.
In partnership with Transport Scotland, the Council has installed a number of charge points across East Dunbartonshire in recent years. While the Council owns the infrastructure, the associated network is operated by ChargePlace Scotland who are also responsible for coordinating repairs to the charge points on the public network. The Council is not directly involved in the repairs but does continue to communicate with ChargePlace Scotland on a regular basis to understand where the faults are and to highlight specific issues as and when officers become aware of them, mainly through regular correspondence from local residents and Elected Members.
The Council is notified by ChargePlace Scotland when an issue has been raised at one of our sites and is also notified by the maintenance supplier that an engineer is scheduled to attend.
As included within Action 27 of the Local Transport Strategy 2020-2025 (LTS), the Council is committed to increasing the availability of electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The Council published a booklet on the Council's website which summarised useful information on the current network as well as indicative plans for growing the network across the authority.
Since the LTS was approved and the booklet published, national policy and funding mechanisms have evolved in line with Transport Scotland's new vision for Scotland's Public Electric Vehicle Charging Network.
The Council is therefore working closely with partners across the Glasgow City Region on a wider plan for unlocking potential investment for the public network in East Dunbartonshire in line with this new vision.
