Technical Notes 2025, Issue 125 - Lenzie Academy & Whitegates Park – Ground Investigation Surveys
Details
1. The purpose of this Technical Note is to advise Elected Members of a further round of ground investigation surveys planned at Whitegates Park and within the school grounds at Lenzie Academy, Myrtle Avenue, which will help inform the next stage of the design development process for the new Lenzie Academy project.
2. The survey at Lenzie Academy will consist of 12 window sample boreholes to a depth of 5 meters, installation of ground gas and groundwater monitoring wells, 8 machine dug trial pits, soakaway and in-situ CBR testing. The attached site plan shows the proposed locations of the sample areas, marked in red and green.
3. At Whitegates Park, a further round of ground investigation is required to limited area of the site. This will involve manually digging small holes using hand tools to collect four shallow soil samples, each up to 1.2 meters deep. No heavy machinery will be used, and the work will cause minimal disruption. All areas will be fully restored after sampling. The attached site plan shows the indicative location of samples in red.
4. The soil samples taken from the surveys will be sent to a laboratory to understand and confirm the make-up of the ground. The survey results will then inform the design development and highlight any necessary ground treatments.
5. As the surveys proposed to be carried out are intrusive in nature, areas will be required to be fenced off for duration of the works. Each borehole/trial pit will be sectioned off by fencing and will be removed upon completion of each dig and reinstatement. All areas will be reinstated upon completion of each borehole/trial pit or gas monitoring dig with existing turf.
6. The surveys will commence on Monday, 21st July and conclude on 8th August.
7. Notice of the surveys will be communicated via the project website and through the Council’s social media channels.
