This Technical Note will be published on the Council’s website following circulation to Members. Its contents may be disclosed or shared outwith the Council.

  • The purpose of this Technical Note is to provide Elected Members with a further update on the Canniesburn Toll Improvement Project (‘the Project’). This follows a recent update in Technical Note No. 080-25 of 2 May 2025.
  • The previous Technical Note advised that any required defect works would be completed within the defects period for the project (before October 2025).
  • Officers can now report that the defect works alongside some minor works identified through the Road Safety Audit Process will be undertaken on 5 - 8 July 2025. In order for these works to be carried out in a safe manner Traffic Management (TM) in the form of temporary lane and footpath closures will be put in place.
  • The Switchback north and south will be subject to lane closures over this short period, as well as a section on the west side of roundabout. Please note that no full road closures are required as part of these works.
  • The footpath closures will have signed diversions put in place. The bus stop on Switchback Northbound (Canniesburn Drive) will be suspended and temporarily relocated to accommodate these works.
  • During the final phase of the TM, on 8 July, the right-turn movement from MacFarlane Road to Moore Drive will be banned with the roundabout used as the diversion. Movements from Moore Drive to MacFarlane Road will under control of TM operatives using a STOP/GO board. Affected residents will be letter dropped to provide advanced notice of this restriction.
  • The TM Plans outlining the details of these will be added to the Project webpage. Signage will be put in place onsite to provide advanced warning of closures approximately one week in advance.
